North London Saxophone Teachers
On this page you’ll find a range of different Saxophone Teachers covering the North London area.
All listings have the key information presented, such as; price, coverage area, contact information, travel information and qualifications. Where applicable, each teacher has provided their genre specialities, such as Jazz or Classical, which can help you find the best teacher for the style of music you wish to learn. Each profile has been written and completed by the music teacher themselves.
Please note that none of the teachers on this site have been independently verified by ourselves and we do not verify or ask for a CRB (or equivalent) check, or any proof of qualifications prior to the teachers appearing on this list.
Finding a Saxophone Teacher
When considering which Saxophone teacher is for you, think about which style of music you would like to pursue. Most teachers will have one or two styles that they specialise in above others. Our listings provide information about the genre specialities of each teacher on their profile, so you can better assess which teacher is right for the ambitions you have for your musical journey.
We recommend compiling a shortlist of 2-3 teachers which you may like to work with and giving each of them a call to see their availability, introducing yourself and setting up an initial trial lesson.

Hello there
I’ve performed with Prince, Amy Winehouse, Beverley Knight, Steve Cropper and many others. I’m in the official Rehab video, and Legend alongside Duffy. Please fell free to look me up on youtube, bandcamp, patreon, any social media or my website www.aaronliddard.com
My approach is student orientated. Its a mixture of formal and informal, working on strength and weaknesses. We will improve your abilities through varied approaches. Generally I’m searching for what works best for you.
I studied teaching gaining a FAETC which is a compressed PGCE.
I’m teaching on Zoom and during normal times I teach from my music studio.
I also teach at Hillyfield Academy in Walthamstow.
I can put you in for grades but only when I feel you’re ready.
Please read my testimonials:
Fatima Date: April 2020
My son has been playing the piano since he was 2 but it was since the last few years has his musical abilities truly unfolded – all thanks to being tutored by Mr. Liddard, who is one of the most accomplished piano teachers that I have met. His teaching style deploys multiple approaches making it fun and productive at the same time. Within a year or so of tutoring, my son has managed to pass his first few Grade exams achieving a Merit and a Distinction – all thanks to the tailored piano tutoring, support and encouragement of Mr. Liddard. My son now has a much greater understanding and appreciation of the instrument. Mr. Liddard has also invested in understanding and getting to know my son and subsequently, the one-to-one tutoring has been immensely beneficial and productive. And even now that we are in lockdown, my son still receives his piano lessons via an online platform where Mr. Liddard has been able to adapt his approach to suit the current climate. We are so happy and proud of our son’s achievement – but the path to being a great pianist is synonymous to having that great piano teacher who will lead the way. I absolutely recommend Mr. Liddard.
Lee Date: April 2020
Aaron has been teaching my son for two years now, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress he has made during this time, and the support that Aaron has given him with his music generally. Aside from being a genuinely nice bloke with a great manner with his pupils, Aaron has a wealth of experience both as a teacher and as an extremely successful jazz musician. My son comes out of every lesson genuinely gushing about what he’s learnt and excited to get on and put it into practise. It’s great to see him so inspired by his lessons. His playing has drastically improved during this time, as has his confidence, and he has developed a genuine love for everything jazz, including scales and theory, which I did not think possible. Every lesson is structured around the individual pupil’s needs, with focus on specific strengths and weaknesses rather than following a generic inflexible programme. My son thinks he wants to pursue a career in music, and the advice Aaron has been able to give him in this regard has been invaluable. Of the many music teachers my kids have had for the instruments they play, Aaron stands miles apart in offering a superior level of teaching.
Simon Date: April 2020
I came to the sax very late, but was always an instrument I wanted to play. I tried a couple of local teachers that were ok, but approached lessons in a very formulaic way. Progress was painfully slow and dull. There had to be another way, so I sought out a performer, a master, in the hope of persuading them to teach. I found Aaron, with his wealth of experience, my first lesson was inspirational, he somehow manages to lift the vail on the world of music and within a year I was playing with bands and performing myself. The amount learned from one lesson with Aaron is worth many lessons with a local music teacher with each lesson building and improving your skills and adding to your confidence to play. I now play with many bands and have performed hundreds of gigs! He really is the Yoda of the jazz stick!

I am exceptionally passionate about teaching as evidenced by my 10 years of teaching experience working in secondary, primary and music school settings. By being part of music services, I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience in the way the lessons are delivered and in addition what is expected in the classroom setting. Therefore, I feel that I am a strong candidate for this program.
My career began at a very early age in music school. I went from conservatoire and then later attended university of arts in Lithuania. I was always passionate about music in my childhood and was fortunate enough to have very supportive parents, who were themselves musicians and taught me to play various instruments. Even though I am trained as a professional saxophone player, I also learnt to play piano, clarinet and flute to a very high standard. This was partly because I enjoyed the sound of these instruments and partly because I was always motivated to learn something new. I strongly believe that my broad education, natural interest in my subject and versatile approach in teaching methods are essential to a successful music teaching career.
I discovered my interest in teaching straight after I graduated from university. I was appointed to work in one of Lithuanian music schools and soon realised that teaching was what I meant to be doing and found it very rewarding. It gives me pleasure seeing pupils progressing in their chosen subject and the positive influence I could make for their future development. As a result, I started to volunteer as a teaching assistant in a UK primary school. This experience was an eye opener into Britain’s education system and strengthened my knowledge in the curriculum. Later I was appointed to work in one of the music services as a peripatetic music tutor of woodwind and piano/keyboard. I had an opportunity to work with pupils from different backgrounds in secondary and primary school settings. Including one to ones, small groups and whole class settings.
Last year I joined a teaching musician course in Trinity Laban conservatoire, which was a great opportunity to enhance my current education and strengthen my teaching skills. I strongly believed that a good music teacher should be actively participate in musical activities. Therefore, I decided to become a member of a wind orchestra, join a few bands, sing in a choir, write my own pieces of music and make arrangements for the orchestra and choir.
I really enjoy working with young people as it has broadened my experience and taught me class management skills into what makes a successful lesson. I believe that engaging with every individual, facilitating people with SEN, organising various activities, presenting material in a methodical and interesting way are what makes a good lesson. It also encourages individuals to thrive in their education. I believe that engagement is important because it is a key tool to ensure learning occurs and it reduces poor student behaviours by keeping them interested in their learning.

I am a clarinet, saxophone, recorder and bassoon teacher based in Haringey. I have done a music degree as well as a composition degree, and am well-placed to therefore teach composition, theory and arranging too. I always want to encourage students to enjoy themselves and to make the most of their lesson time, and I love working with students to help them achieve their musical ambitions.
As I have a large amount of ensemble experience I am able to help students with both solo and ensemble repertoire – I work with ensembles at Haringey Music Service so have experience working with children as well as adults.

I am currently a 3rd year studying student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I discipline in Jazz Saxophone however over the years I have also learnt Drumming, Percussion, Piano, Clarinet and Flute. I have also studied composition with the likes of Barak Schmool and Trish Clowes.
I have around 3-4 years of teaching experience with students aged 6-72. Previously I taught in the Allegro Music academy handling around 30 students per week. When I came to Guildhall I took a 2 year break from teaching in order to focus on my own musical development and to learn disciplines such as composition and second woodwind instruments in more depth. Since then I have started to get back into teaching with a much more developed and engaging teaching style.
I am able to teach all of the above instruments in both classical and jazz disciplines as well as contemporary and popular.

I am a 24 year old professional Saxophonist and have completed my undergraduate of Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and drama. I will be attending Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in September 2023 to gain my Masters of Music qualification. I have been performing and teaching all over the UK, Europe and SouthEast Asia since 2017 gaining a wealth of knowledge in music, world music and the theory of music. Notable performances include Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, Glastonbury festival, European tours, several performances in Singapore and Malaysia, various big band projects and the London EFG Jazz Festival. At Guildhall I had lessons from the likes of Trish Clowes, Ian Ballamy, Jean Toussaint, Brandon Allen, Malcolm Miles, Stuart Hall, Malcolm Edmonstone, Ines Loubet and Matt Skelton. During this time I also participated in small band projects and big band ensembles being taught by industry professionals such as Scott Stroman and Gareth Lockrane.
Teaching experience I have includes teaching up to 30 students 1-1 per week aged between 6 and 72, putting on masterclasses in primary and secondary schools across the UK and running ensemble masterclasses for GCSE and AS level students. Teaching is such a fundamental part of being a musician and transferring knowledge onto all different types of people is something that brings high rewards. Watching a student of any age progress in their chosen instrument at whichever pace they are comfortable with is a crucial step in my teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect to pay for Music Tuition?
There are many factors that affect the price of one-to-one music lessons, such as qualifications, experience, and whether the teacher travels to you or teachers from home.
The Musicians’ Union recommends an hourly rate of £35 for music teaching, however, in our experience, this is normally higher in London and you can expect to pay anything from £40-60 per hour.
Most importantly, you should find the right teacher for you (or your child).
Are your teachers CRB checked?
We don’t verify that teachers on our database are CRB checked, but most music teachers who have worked in the UK school system, will be required to maintain a regular CRB, and will always list it on their profile.
What's the typical length of a lesson?
Lesson length is a common question we get asked.
The first thing we suggest taking into consideration is the age of the student, we find that younger beginners, can benefit from regular lessons of 30 – 45 Minutes each, as their attention span is less than the typical adult.
I'm a Teacher, how can I be listed on your site?
To be listed as a teacher on our site, please fill out the form on our sign-up page, with all the relevant information completed. A few things we require, up to date pricing, locations, styles.
Do you have Teachers outside the North London area?
As we’re based in North London and we specialise in providing a local service, we are at this time only listing teachers within boroughs in North London, our Teachers list and service coverage will be expanded upon over time.
