Finding an Oboe Teacher

When considering which Oboe teacher is for you, think about which style of music you would like to pursue. Most teachers will have one or two styles that they specialise in above others. Our listings provide information about the genre specialities of each teacher on their profile, so you can better assess which teacher is right for the ambitions you have for your musical journey.

We recommend compiling a shortlist of 2-3 teachers which you may like to work with and giving each of them a call to see their availability, introducing yourself and setting up an initial trial lesson.

Artist Diploma in Oboe Performance (Distinction), M.Mus. (Distinction), B.Mus. (Merit with Honours)

I studied oboe performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and graduated in 2017 with a Distinction for my Masters of Music degree.  I then went on to do an Artist Diploma in Oboe Performance, again at Guildhall, and attained a Distinction in 2020.

As a recitalist, I have played in venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Milton Court Concert Hall, and as an orchestral musician have played with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. I gave my concerto debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2016, performing Richard Strauss’ oboe concerto.

Apart from performing, I also have a great passion for teaching. To date I have over eight years of experience teaching both privately and in schools. All of my students who have taken ABRSM examinations have attained either a Distinction or a Merit and a couple of them are also seriously considering pursuing music in Conservatory. I currently also teach the oboe at Havering Music Centre on Saturday mornings. I build rapport with my students and take great pride in watching them make progress and grow as a musician.
My students range from 7 to 60 years old, with some learning the oboe to take graded examinations and others learning the instrument as a hobby. Over time, I have gained significant experience in helping students of different ages and standards overcome technical difficulties, thereby significantly improving their playing. Whatever your goals are, rest assured I will tailor the lessons to suit you best.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I expect to pay for Music Tuition?

There are many factors that affect the price of one-to-one music lessons, such as qualifications, experience, and whether the teacher travels to you or teachers from home.

The Musicians’ Union recommends an hourly rate of £35 for music teaching, however, in our experience, this is normally higher in London and you can expect to pay anything from £40-60 per hour.

Most importantly, you should find the right teacher for you (or your child).

  • Are your teachers CRB checked?

We don’t verify that teachers on our database are CRB checked, but most music teachers who have worked in the UK school system, will be required to maintain a regular CRB, and will always list it on their profile.

  • What's the typical length of a lesson?

Lesson length is a common question we get asked.

The first thing we suggest taking into consideration is the age of the student, we find that younger beginners, can benefit from regular lessons of 30 – 45 Minutes each, as their attention span is less than the typical adult.

  • I'm a Teacher, how can I be listed on your site?

To be listed as a teacher on our site, please fill out the form, with all the relevant information completed. A few things we require, up to date pricing, locations, styles.

  • Do you have Teachers outside the North London area?

As we’re based in North London and we specialise in providing a local service, we are at this time only listing teachers within boroughs in North London, our Teachers list and service coverage will be expanded upon over time.
